OUR HISTORY

日本語|English

The Okano family is said to have been weavers within the estate of the Nakatsu clan (currently Oita Prefecture). However, our operations formally began in 1897 with the founder, Okano Shinichiro, establishing a Hakata-ori weaving facility in front of the Sofukuji Temple (the oldest Zen temple in Japan and the Bodhi Temple of Mitsuda Yazaemon). At that time it was noted for producing various fabrics beyond Hakata-ori. 2017 is the 120th anniversary of the founding.
